Local Project: UW Farm
In 2013, our chapter partnered with UW Farm with funding from the Campus Sustainability Fund, to help meet their engineering needs. EWB designed and built a 15x50 ft hoophouse. The frame is composed of steel pipes and uses connections typically used for metal fences. The greenhouse was built from scratch, and features concrete anchoring for the pipes. The insulation for the project includes a combination of polyethylene and polycarbonate.
In early 2015, our chapter expanded this partnership to include a covered area near the greenhouse which will house a wash station and cob oven. Design took place over the Spring and Summer of 2015 and the project has earned "completed" status. Our chapter continues to monitor the long-term condition of the infrastructure installed and now in use by UW Farms.
